I was pleased to be given the opportunity to review the third edition of Comprehensive Clinical Nephrology, the goal of which is to provide 'comprehensive coverage' of contemporary nephrology.
All chapters have been extensively revised and updated. Furthermore, a new chapter on Intensive Care Unit Nephrology has been added.
Whilst primarily aimed at clinicians, the superb readability of the text, combined with excellent illustrations, broadens its appeal to the wider renal care community. The CD-ROM, containing images from the textbook, may be used for educational purposes.
In conclusion, this is an excellent clinical and educational resource That I can thoroughly recommend to all members of the multidisciplinary team involved in the day-to-day care and management of renal patients.

This is one of the most easy-to-read nephrology text books I have come across. Although it was bought to be used as a reference book, very often I end up reading the whole chapter or even chapters as the text simply flows and effortlessly makes the subject very interesting. It manages to make complex subjects easy to understand and interesting without making it simplistic. It also provides an excellent overview of all the relevant clinical studies and guidelines. I would thoroughly recommend it.

Excellent reference book for training nephrologists

This is an extremely useful book that is an asset for every training nephrologist but also as a reference to anyone involved in Nephrology. Well organised chapters and excellent illustrations. Accompanied by a CD-ROM that carries all the figures that can be used for presentations. I would strongly recommend it.

Great book for your little one's bedside table

Love this book as a new way to help with bedtime routines. Simple, yet clever and original rhymes such as 'My thirsty is dry!' and 'My sleepy is hiding way up high!' make for an engaging read and kept me smiling until 'the monster' is in bed. Great book to keep on your little one's bedside table.

Ricketts, Electrical Solitons Theory, Design, and Applications is the first text to focus specifically on KdV solitons in the nonlinear transmission line. Divided into three parts, the book begins with the foundational theory for KdV solitons, presents the core underlying mathematics of solitons, and describes the solution to the KdV equation and the basic properties of that solution, including collision behaviors and amplitude-dependent velocity. It also examines the conservation laws of the KdV for loss-less and lossy systems.

The second part describes the KdV soliton in the context of the NLTL. It derives the lattice equation for solitons on the NLTL and shows the connection with the KdV equation as well as the governing equations for a lossy NLTL. Detailing the transformation between KdV theory and what we measure on the oscilloscope, the book demonstrates many of the key properties of solitons, including the inverse scattering method and soliton damping.

The final part highlights practical applications such as sharp pulse formation and edge sharpening for high speed metrology as well as high frequency generation via NLTL harmonics. It describes challenges to realizing a robust soliton oscillator and the stability mechanisms necessary, and introduces three prototypes of the circular soliton oscillator using discrete and integrated platforms.

Crowdfunding is the collective effort of individuals to pool relatively small amounts of money into a much larger “fund” for a specific purpose. Crowdfunding almost always refers to online efforts to get financial backers, but the projects themselves range from disaster relief to political campaigns to arts projects to just about anything else that can be imagined.

My book focuses on equity crowdfunding – where a collection of individuals invest in a business with the hope of future financial return.

Experienced Wall Street hands believe that equity crowdfunding has little utility. They believe that while some small amounts of money will flow to help startup companies, the opportunity will be very limited. This sort of small-minded thinking misses the true opportunity offered by this innovative funding model.

Equity crowdfunding is the single largest marketing opportunity for local businesses to transform mere customers into loyal owners. By resetting the relationship between corporation and patron, the new rules for crowdfunding are going to fundamentally shift the way entrepreneurs think about both raising capital and creating long-term engagements with their customers.

For the startup entrepreneur who believes that the new laws will solve their undercapitalization woes, crowdfunding will prove to be a disappointment. While there will be a limited opportunity to equity crowdfund a startup, that window will soon close.

Great Analysis on the History and Trajectory of Equity Crowdfunding

Jonathan Frutkin provides a detailed history of crowdfunding, its current status, and the future potential of equity crowdfunding once the SEC finally promulgates rules and regulations under the JOBS Act. This book has something for everyone, including attorneys, investors, business owners and entrepreneurs. As the title suggests, Mr. Frutkin envisions equity crowdfunding as being most successfully used, not by start-ups, but by existing businesses, and not as a means to raise money, but as a means to increase customer loyalty by giving customers a stake in the success of the brand.

This is a must-read for any small business owner or entrepreneur who is interested in conducting an equity crowdfunding offering.

The book is a smooth read filled with insightful real world examples on how to take ordinary people, and make them owners in your company no matter how large or small. The book gives a detailed history of where crowd funding began, and where it has evolved today giving the reader all tools necessary to navigate through this revolutionary product. With the stock market crash still fresh in people's minds, crowd funding benefits both the small investor with an opportunity to invest in real companies with real profits, and the entrepreneur the opportunity to circumnavigate the frozen credit markets to raise capital for endeavours both new and old.

This book accurately describes and validates what I lived.

I found this book just by chance. What a fortunate accident! Miller's description of men just like my now-ex-husband amazed me. Even so, at first I considered the book kind of simple. Then the memories started coming back, from two decades of marriage. His cutting remarks and actions that left me emotionally lost suddenly made sense. My always-failing attempts to make myself better for him, to make our marriage and family better, suddenly looked preposterous. A year after reading this book, old memories still surface with a profound new perspective. No Visible Wounds is not at all simple. It is enormously enlightening and liberating. I highly recommend this book. I am giving it to my own parents, who still don't understand why I divorced him, who this cruel man (they think he's delightful and sincere) still has wrapped around his little finger.

A manual for women who are victims of emotional abuse by men

When I stumbled across No Visible Wounds, I felt I had found an ally in Mary Susan Miller. I have written my own book, Living On A Dream: A Marriage Tale, about my mother, a wife who fits the profile of the psychologically abused woman, as described by Dr. Miller. This book is a powerful one, a wake up call for many. Hers is a knowledgable voice about a subject that is rarely given the notice that it deserves. The problem of emotional battering has been overshadowed by the more visible problem of physical battering of women by men. No Visible Wounds is a hidden dilemma,and Mary Susan Miller's book is the important, and prehaps, the only qualitative book on the subject. Every woman should read this book, because it affects many, those who hide and deny, and those who know someone, a friend, or neighbor who lead lives of desperation. This book ranks alongside the other Dr. Miller's famous book, Alice Miller's Drama of the Gifted Child, a.k.a., Prisoners of Childhood.

This book is essential for peopleraised in the United States

As a counselor in the field of domestic violence, specifically working with women's groups, I feel I've finally found a thorough explanation of men's non-physical abuse of women in our society. Dr. Miller does a phenomenal job of peeling the onion, i.e. defining and explaining all the convoluted reasoning behind men who control women by any means necessary. Dr. Miller calls this behavior what it is ABUSE. She points out that we are socialized to deny and accept and cover up domestic abuse. My favorite line is her description of our society's response to domestic violence, including non-physical abuse, as one of "learned helplessness". This book is enlightening for those who work with women in abusive relationships, for the women themselves and for all of us living in a culture that creates, reinforces and perpetuates abuse against women.
