About the Author

Chang Sok Suh, MD, OMD, PhD, is a volunteer at the Willed Body Program at the UC Irvine College of Medicine and occasionally teaches acupuncture anatomy classes to licensed California acupuncturists. He received his Oriental Medical License at Kyung Hee University in Seoul, Korea. He was an acupuncture specialist in rheumatic and rheumatoid arthritis in the Clinic at Monira General Hospital in Cairo, Egypt. He also is the former personal physician for the royal family of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Dr. Suh has taught acupuncture and eastern medicine to students at various institutions throughout the years. He also was a researcher and instructor in the Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology at UCI while acting as spokesperson for acupuncturists in the community. Dr. Suh has written or co-written academic journal articles on an extensive variety of topics in the field for more than 20 years.

Perfect safe guard for needling

I'm an acupuncturist in California and was an OMD in Korea. I took anatomy dissection class in Korea and spent whole two year to finish theory and experiment. However I was in need to review the anatomy on regular basis. Finally I found this book.

1. It shows the detailed cross section. So I can see all the pathway where my needle goes through. It's a perfect safe guard for needling.
2. As usual practitioner rub patient's skin and tissue before inserting needle. Through this book I'm able to understand the underlying landmark to determine the exact acupuncture point.

Lots of Great Photos...But Lacking Real Info

I was browsing through the pages and the photos were pretty amazing. Included were diagrams showing how the lighting was set up.

but one big problem....about 99% of the descriptions were lacking technical information such as the shutter speed, aperture and ISO. I have other photography lighting books and they usually mention what these technical data were used to get the shot. I know each situation would dictate different data but what we want to know is what it took to get THAT shot. Necessary info like "Was High Speed Sync used to darken the skies?", "Was that particular aperture used to allow a lower ISO?" or "Was high ISO used to bring in more ambient lighting?"

I guess i got this one when it was a gold box deal but still...money is money.

Maybe I can resell this book to someone else.

Lots of pictures, no information on how to even take them

While Zeke Kamm features a particular photo with a diagram to along with it... that's all you get. There are no camera settings, i.e. Speed/Aperture/Iso/lens type/distance to describe how the picture was taken. It's the equivalent of buying a cookbook with lots of pretty pictures of dishes and containing a list of ingredients- but no instructions on how to mix them or even the ingredient quantity.

Nearly all photos are the standard "key light flash at 45 degrees with a fill light on the other side and another flash behind the subject" setup. The photos all look like they were enhanced in Photoshop as a good bit of photos I looked at are not in camera shots.

Without any specifics, all you are getting is a picture book with some hints... with the rest for you to figure out. You'll learn a lot more by going to Flickr and searching for "Strobist", which will give you the same pictures AND camera settings.

This author's writing style is self-serving and lacks depth. From the standpoint of someone that has read all of his books, my best suggestion is to stay away from his works.

Kelby does a much better job and offers more tips in one chapter than the Strobist offers in an entire book.

All fluff. No real helpful content.

Five stars for content: one star for design

One needs to maintain perspective in using this book.

The actual content is excellent, definitely five-star content.

The design of the book is awful: some genius decided that black ink is pass� and instead use about an 80% grey. Maybe this is trendy in some circles. But from this reader's perspective, it is a stupid decision. I keep thinking a light bulb has burned out or that my glasses need to be adjusted. Reading this book for more than a few minutes with this grey ink is torture. I am tempted to see if this difficult to read typography violates accessibility guidelines.

Why don't I just return the book and avoid Wiley products in the future?

Because the content is top-notch.

William R. Stanek is very well known for his books on Windows technology. He and his two co-authors don't fail us on this one.

This is very much a reference. If you don't know PowerShell, VBScript or Jscript, this is not he best teaching manual. The basics are covered, but if you don't already know a programming language, you're in trouble.

On the other hand, if you're a programmer and need a quick reference for PowerShell, VBScript and Jscript, this is the cat's meow. Each language is covered in surprising detail with lots of examples, the code for which may be downloaded. The writing style is always clear.

They cover nearly all the common bases; I/O, working with files, Windows scripting libraries and a dozen or so more.

True, there is nothing here that you couldn't find by hunting it down on the web . . . but it is here in one place and well-indexed.

Worth the money and worth the space on your Windows scripting bookshelf. But the gray ink may irritate you.

Good starting point

The book is clearly written, and really helps to understand the philosophy of Windows scripting through VBScript, JScript and PowerShell. It brings relevant example codes, and warnings about some traps the developer should avoid.
Nevertheless, I found the book to be too basic and strictly focused in administrative tasks to be called a "Bible".
As a newcomer to the Windows Scripting land, I think I've got a good basis on that matter from this book. But, to address my real tasks , which encompass the use of MS Office applications and grabbing data from web sites, I'll have to look for informations somewhere else.
